During your pregnancy, you will have a series of prenatal visits and ultrasound appointments that are crucial for monitoring the health and development of your baby. Here is a general overview of what to expect at each appointment:

  1. First Visit
    • Gather information about your health and medical history.
    • Physical exam and discussion of prenatal care and nutrition.

  2. 12 Weeks:
    • First trimester screening (optional).
    • Review lab work results.
    • Listen to your baby’s heartbeat (if not done earlier).
    • Blood pressure and urine check.

  3. 16 Weeks:
    • Listen to baby’s heartbeat.
    • Blood pressure and urine check.
    • Open Neural Tube screening (optional).

  4. 20 Weeks:
    • Full anatomy ultrasound.
    • Blood pressure and urine check.

  5. 24 Weeks:
    • Listen to baby’s heartbeat.
    • Blood pressure and urine check.
    • One-hour glucose test (screening for diabetes).

  6. 28 Weeks:
    • Listen to baby’s heartbeat.
    • Blood pressure and urine check.
    • Repeat one-hour glucose test if needed.
    • Appointments every two weeks from now on.

  7. 30, 32, 34 Weeks:
    • Listen to baby’s heartbeat.
    • Blood pressure and urine check.
    • Measure uterus size.

  8. 36 Weeks:
    • Vaginal swab test for Group B Strep.
    • Lab work for anemia and infections.
    • Weekly appointments to discuss delivery plan.

It’s important to note that insurance companies usually won’t cover ultrasounds performed after the 20-week full anatomy scan unless there is a high-risk diagnosis.
