Your first visit with an obstetrician at CASTANEDA OBGYN will take at least 30-60 minutes. During this appointment, you can expect to have:

  • An ultrasound to confirm your expected due date
  • A comprehensive review of your personal history and previous pregnancies with your physician
  • A physical exam, including a pelvic exam and possibly a pap smear
  • Comprehensive lab testing, including cultures, urine, and bloodwork to detect treatable infections and conditions that could affect both you and your baby
  • An initial visit with one of our OB Coordinators to help clarify your maternity benefits through your insurance company

To prepare for your visit, please arrive 15 minutes early and have time to do the following:

  • Photocopy your insurance card and driver’s license
  • Take a photo for the electronic medical chart

You can also log into our patient portal before your appointment to make the check-in process more efficient.

We verify insurance benefits prior to your appointment to minimize financial surprises, but please note that we cannot guarantee coverage beyond our facility charges.

Before your visit, we recommend starting a prenatal vitamin with the recommended doses of Folic Acid, Calcium, Vitamin D, Iron, and DHA or Omega 3 supplements.
